Authorexternal image apostles.jpgThe Bible is composed of many books written by different authors, and is divided into two main books, the old testament and the new testament. The old testament is comprised of hebrew scriptures. The first five books of the old testament are believed to have been written by Moses. The next set of books in the old testament is the Prophets. The authors of these books are unknown. The last section is the Writings. The authors of those books are usually reflected in their name. If they are unnamed then the credit of authorship is usualy given to a famous figure. King David was the author of Psalms, Solomon wrote Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, and the Song of Songs. Moses wrote the Book of Job, and Jeremiah is said to have written Lamentations. The new testament starts off with the four Gospels. Matthew was by the Apostle Matthew, Mark was by a disciple of the Apostle Peter in Rome, Luke was by Luke the companion of Paul, and John was by John the Evangelist. Luke is also given credit as the author of the Acts, as a continuation of the Gospel of Luke. Then there are the Epistles. Thirteen of them are supposedly written by the Apostle Paul. The authors of the rest of the Espistles are usually the person in the name or a person close to them. These are the believed authors of the books but no one is certain that this is correct.
